Historically it has benefitted from either its location on the coast, number one as a ferry port, late as a fishing port known for its oyster beds, and last as a centre for yachting. There are the heavy total of listed buildings in the town, including the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club. A Mangapps Railway Museum is located nearby.

Although the town has a people of little concluded 8000, these are the chief payout in the wider Dengie Hundred region (people 20,000) & so has numerous features mayhap further suited to big towns, like a cinema.

Isolated Twenty miles from either Chelmsford, a nighest big town (& hospital), the town would become a good deal around decline whenever it were nin for Burnham-on-Crouch train station. A statiin is placed on one-line branch from either Wickford, which was electrified in the 1980s, and will bring the straight service to Liverpool Street station in the City of London thus including the town in the London commuter belt.
